The Parent Support & Education Clinic
The Parent Support & Education Clinic (PSEC) is a program of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Division at UConn Health. We provide education, support, and services to parents and guardians of children ages 4-17, with the aim of helping parents to support their children's social and emotional development, increasing parents’ confidence in their parenting skills, and enhancing parent-child relationships.

Groups to Help Your Child Manage Their Emotions
Tuning in to Kids®
Enrolling now! Free parenting group for caregivers of children ages 4-8 years.
January 22 - March 12, 2026; Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
In-person and virtual options are available.
This 8-session group uses the Tuning in to Kids® curriculum to help parents become successful “emotion coaches” to their children. It is intended to help build understanding of children’s emotions and support their developing emotion management skills, as well as promote communication and connection. In this way, this program is intended to be a resource for all parents, not just parents of children with emotional or behavioral problems.

Tuning in to Teens®
Free parenting group for caregivers of youth ages 11-17 years.
This 8-session group uses a similar curriculum as Tuning in to Kids®, tailored for caregivers of teens. This program is ideal for caregivers who want to learn how to help their teen understand and express emotions in healthy and positive ways. This group will also help you learn how to respond to your teen in a way that helps maintain a connected relationship.

Enrolling now! Parenting group for caregivers of children ages 6-11.
January 21 - March 11, 2026; Tuesdays from 5:15 to 6:15 p.m.
In-person and virtual options are available
This is an 8-week parenting group for parents of youth ages 6-11 whose noncompliant behavior happens more than their peers, interferes with home life, and causes the child or parent distress. This program is ideal for parents and guardians who want to learn how to manage their children’s behavior more successfully while maintaining a positive relationship.

Support Group for Parents of Youth With Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Starting this spring! Free support group for parents and guardians of children with ASD.
April 1 - June 30, 2026; Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m.
In-person and virtual options are available.
This is a weekly drop-in support group for parents and guardians of youth ages 4-21 diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. The group will introduce families to others like themselves, who can provide much-needed information and emotional support, and will work as a team to address common concerns with an expert to facilitate topics of interest. Topics will include sharing daily coping techniques and offering tips to make family life run more smoothly. The group also will provide parents with information on medical or educational services, programs, and other resources available within the community. Parents are welcome to come to as many or as few sessions as they need.
