When you suffer a stroke, every minute counts. At the UConn Health Stroke Center, a team of neurocritical care experts provides fast, efficient care for patients experiencing stroke symptoms and personalized, ongoing care for patients who have already experienced a stroke or have other risk factors. Our team uses the latest procedures and technology, ensuring you receive a rapid response and coordinated care for your stroke recovery.

A stroke occurs when there is not enough blood circulation to the brain, and the resulting lack of oxygen can cause brain cells to die. There are two categories of stroke:

  • Ischemic stroke is the most common type and happens when arteries are blocked.
  • Hemorrhagic stroke results from bleeding into the brain or the spaces surrounding the brain.
